Ship O' Joy

Our St. Luke Church has a very active Ship O' Joy Group.  We call our  organization a ship, and the moderators are called “skippers”.  The secretary is called a “logkeeper” and the treasurer is the “purser”.  An individual ship relies on Jesus Christ as their “Pilot”, the Bible as their “compass” and the church as its “anchor”.

Our own Ship of Joy has over 30 members.  We have monthly meetings, and these most generally start with a potluck.  Our programs have been varied; we’ve had members talk about a recent trip, musical performances (live or on video), and various games.  As a group we have attended plays, dinner theaters and concerts.  A favorite of ours is the Barbershop Quartet Concert down town in Kansas City.  We also enjoy being able to give service to our church and community.    Each year we go caroling to many of our home bound and elderly members of our church.  Each Christmas we make 30 Christmas bags that contain 12 numbered gifts.  The bags are given to Hospice, and the workers there distribute them to families who have lost a loved one the previous year.  The gifts are opened on the “Twelve Days of Christmas”.  Each year we have a silent auction for the congregation, which enables us to fund all of the various projects that we do.

Our meetings are open to singles and couples. We love having people visit any of these meetings.  We guarantee great food and joyous fellowship.  We pray that our presence within St. Luke will always be one that nurtures and strengthens our families, our church and our community.  Please call the Church at: 816-453-3741 and leave a message for one of the following people to contact you regarding more information.

Mary Dee and John Brown or Rita and Bob Phillips.
